The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers for robbing and assaulting Divisional Police Officer, Alausa Ikeja, CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda with a machete.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.
Hundeyin explained that on April 9, around 11.00 p.m., the Alausa division was conducting a sting operation at Otedola Bridge, Alausa Ikeja.
As the officers were stationed at the bridge, a gang of three suspected armed robbers emerged from their hideout and attacked the DPO Alausa with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
He added that the suspects also stole Abaniwonda’s Samsung S22 phone before fleeing to an unknown location after the assault.
“Subsequently, on April 13, at about 10.00 a.m., intelligence gathering showed that the said suspects were sighted hiding at a hotel in Akute area of Ajuwon Ogun.
“Upon receipt of this information, the anti-crime team of the division moved swiftly to the location and arrested a 29-year old suspect, popularly known as (THUG LIFE), who happened to be the ringleader of the group.
“One other suspect, 25, was also arrested with the ring leader in the hotel. They were taken to the police station for investigation with exhibits found on them,” he said.
Hundeyin also mentioned that investigations revealed the suspects forcibly snatched the handset from the DPO after attacking her with a machete on the back. Subsequent efforts led to the arrest of the 25-year-old third suspect.
“Further investigation revealed that the ring leader has been robbing on Otedola Bridge for the past five years, but changing his boys every time for operations,” he said.
