The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Zamfara State Command, has apprehended three suspected motorcycle snatchers and recovered a Boxer motorcycle, Bajaj.
This was made known during the parade of the suspects on Monday evening at the command headquarters.
The Zamfara State NSCDC Commandant, Sani Mustafa, represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sc Ikor Oche, stated that the Corps is on high alert to combat criminal activities and curb the increasing insecurity in the state.
” Our men have clamped down on a group of notorious syndicates who specializes in strangling their victims to death, especially Okada riders, in other to snatch their motorcycles (popularly known as OKADA)”.
He noted further that the group of suspects were believe to be operating within Furfuri and Bungudu axis along Sokoto Road.
“Fortunately, the operatives of the Corps acting on credible intelligence, arrested these suspects when they attempted to sniff life out of one of their victims around Gada Biyu area of Gusau.”
He said the suspects were apprehended after they attacked the victim with a hard stick, intending to kill him and steal the motorcycle at around 2:00 p.m. on the 26th of April 2024.
Oche said, “The victim is however alive and receiving treatment due to the timely intervention of the NSCDC operatives”.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that these suspects had conspired with one Sani Samaila (at large), a motorcycle dealer at yarDole Motorcycle market Gusau who receives every motorcycle Snatched by this gang.
“The suspects Abdulkarim Usman, Abubakar Ibrahim and Naziru Bala confessed to have snatched a motorcycle shortly before the Ramadan period and sold same to Sani at the rate of N170,000.00.
“Commandant Sani Mustapha has reiterated his stance on zero tolerance for crimes in Zamfara State advised the general public to be vigilant and to always properly screen the kind of people they relate with.”
He affirmed that after the investigations are completed, all the suspects will be brought before the court for prosecution in the state.
