Former world’s tallest woman has passed away at the age of 77 due to pneumonia

Currently, the world’s tallest woman measures 7 feet and 0.71 inches, still inches off Maria’s height record.
Popularly known as “Queen of Height”, Maria Feliciana was a singer and basketball player.

Born into a family of tall stature, with her father standing at 7 feet and 8.7 inches tall and her paternal grandfather at 7 feet and 5.4 inches tall, Maria gained fame for her height.
The Estado de Sergipe building, also known as the Maria Feliciana building, was named in her honor and stood as the tallest building in Aracaju upon its opening in 1970.
Maria’s height propelled her into the spotlight, leading her to perform at circuses and tour cities. At just 18 years old, she earned the title of “Rainha da Altura” (Queen of Height). In 1973, she married Assuires Jose dos Santos and had three children with him.
In 2022, a statue was erected in her honor outside a museum in Sergipe, her home state, commemorating her life. Despite her earlier adventures, Maria has been wheelchair-bound and largely housebound for the past 15 years.
