The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 38-year-old motorcycle rider, Orji Timothy, for illegal possession of firearms.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Bright Efafe, confirmed the incident in a statement.
Timothy was arrested by the Eagle-Net Special Squad Surveillance Team during a routine patrol along the Oviri-Ogor road in the state.
He was found with a locally made double-barrel pistol containing two live cartridges, twenty sachets of 100mg Tramadol, one sachet of Swinol, and two cutlasses in Ughelli community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The police initially stopped the suspect on his motorcycle on 24/04/2024, around 14:45 hrs. A substantial quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp was discovered during the search.
The recovery of the Indian hemp led to the arrest of Orji Timothy, a resident of No. 21 Olotu Street, Ughelli.
Edafe said, “The operatives further extended their search to the suspect’s residence, where a locally made double-barrel pistol with two live cartridges, twenty sachets of 100mg Tramadol, one sachet of Swinol, and two cutlasses were recovered.”
He added, “Investigation is ongoing.”
