A coalition of Civil Society Organizations led by Citizens Rising for a United Nigeria and Civil Society and Youth Groups in Nigeria has formed a joint task team to monitor the distribution of petrol across the country.
Their goal is to ensure compliance with the directives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
This proactive initiative aims to prevent potential sabotage and ensure a seamless supply of petrol to Nigerians, alleviating recent difficulties faced by consumers.
The decision to establish the monitoring team reflects the CSOs’ belief that adherence to the NNPCL’s directives will restore normalcy in petrol distribution in a matter of days.
Speaking on the challenges recently encountered, the Coalition Secretary, Jonathan Ochai, said, “The past few days have been challenging for many Nigerians due to petrol scarcity and queues in some states. But NNPCL has addressed the issue, resolving logistics challenges and assuring no price increase.”
Amb. Solomon Adodo and Mallam Suleiman Musa were named to spearhead the monitoring team, saddle with the responsibility of ensuring that distributors comply with the stipulated directives of NNPCL.
Their roles are pivotal in normalizing the distribution of petrol and preventing further disruptions.
On the unwavering commitment, Ochai said, “Nigerians deserve to be served the best, and we are pleased with the NNPCL for quickly rising to the occasion and addressing the problem efficiently.”
The establishment of the monitoring team was made known following the discomforting return of long queues at filling stations, which generated concerns and speculations among the public about a potential hike in petrol prices.
The NNPCL, however, has swiftly clarified that there are no such plans and that the issues faced were purely logistical.
“Our Situation Room will monitor progress, update the public, and report any non-compliant distributors,” affirmed Ochai, expressing the dedication to ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
