No fewer than three people reportedly died in a road accident that occurred along the Akungba-Ikare Road in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ezekiel Son’Allah, confirmed the accident on Friday, noting that it was caused by wrongful overtaking and route violation on the part of the vehicles involved.
It was said that the crash involved a Toyota Camry car with number plate LND 592 GX and two commercial buses.
An eyewitness explained that the driver of the car suddenly opened the door and hit the motorcycle which carried the victims and they fell down on the road while the other vehicle coming on the other side ran over them.
The victims were said to have died on the spot, the driver of the car immediately fled the scene for fear of being lynched while youths in the area set the car ablaze.
Speaking further, Son’Allah, “Three persons were killed while the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and route violation. The victims were taken to Aduloju Hospital Akungba by the policemen,” Son’Allah said.
Warning motorists against violating traffic rules, the FRSC boss suggested that speed breakers should be mounted on the road to prevent recurrent accidents on the road.
