At least four people including a bishop were reportedly stabbed at a church service in Sydney, Australia.
According to BBC News, the attack happened during a sermon that was being live-streamed on the church’s YouTube page.
The incident was said to occured at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley at around 7:15 p.m. local time.
The bishop was reportedly stabbed while giving a sermon at the period.
The incident reportedly happened on Monday in the suburb of Wakeley.
Police responded to reports that a number of people had been stabbed but said none of their injuries were life-threatening.
They added that a man had been arrested and was helping with their inquiries. The motive for the attack is unknown.
“A police operation is underway in Wakeley, following reports of a stabbing,” the New South Wales Police said in a news release. “Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attended a location on Welcome Street, Wakeley following reports a number of people were stabbed.”
It was also not immediately clear what weapon was used in the attack as the bishop has been named by local media as Mar Mari Emmanuel.
In the livestreamed video on the sermon, a man dressed in dark clothing can be seen approaching the bishop before appearing to strike him.
Several other people then attempt to intervene and screams of horror can be heard.
Those who were stabbed were said to be men aged between 20 and 70 and the community has been ordered to avoid the area.
A male has been reportedly arrested following the incident and is assisting police with their inquiries.
“The injured people suffered non-life threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics,” police added in the statement.
The stabbing comes days after six people were stabbed at a shopping mall in the same city. The attacker was later shot dead by a police officer.
However, there is no suggestion the two events are linked.
