The social media is awash with mix reactions as the controversial cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky was sentenced to six months jailed without option of fine.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced Bobrisky to six months in jail with no option of fine.
On April 5th, EFCC arraigned Bobrisky in court on a six-count charge ranging from Abuse of the Naira and Money laundering.
Meanwhile, the court dismissed the money laundering charges but convicted him for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime. The court also ordered that he be remanded in EFCC detention in Lagos
The judge also adjourned hearing for judgement into the case to April 9. However, the court couldn’t sit due to the April 9 to April 11 Eid-Fitri public holiday.
This development has sparked different reactions from social media users with some blaming EFCC for the incident while others applauded the court judgement.
@mario9jaa, who noted Bobrisky was not jailed for just naira abuse wrote, “EFCC have to tell us the exact reason why Bobrisky was jailed for 6 months without option sha.Cannot be because of Naira abuse.”
Another user who said Bobrisky should have developed to a man before finishing his jail term @lil_maamiii, said, “Bobrisky jailed for 6months with no option of fine ke??
Btw who else can’t wait to see beards on mummy of Lagos face??😩😩a abuse.”
@nifemioguntoye, who explained that this an opener for those who had been abusing Naira, wrote, “Bobrisky’s ordeal means you can be jailed for all those videos of you spraying Naira. Now that we know the Judge can decide not to exercise his/her discretion on option of fine.”
Supporting the judgement,@adeosunm, wrote, “Breaking! Bobrisky Jailed 6months With No Option of a Fine. We are gradually getting there in Nigeria, where there will be justice for all, irrespective of status and there wouldn’t be delay in justice. Justice delayed is justice denied and manipulated. Kudos to the Judiciary👍”
A social media used who criticized the court judgement@selfmadeceleb3, said, “Bobrisky jailed for 6months😳this is unfair.People throw money anyhow yet nothing is done to them. I pray she or he is put in a female prison.”
Also, @mosesogbeche, stated, “This is a very harsh judgement and it’s setting a bad precedent. I think he will appeal and get it over turned. Thia is more about his lifestyle than the case at hand. So he will be going to male prison with boobs?”
Noting his arrogant attitude landed him in jail @Pauly2570, wrote “I think the court took judicial notice of his/her boastful and arrogant attitude. No matter the connection you think you have, always be aware that people deserve their respect and can disappoint when it mattered most.”
