The First Lady, Sen.Oluremi Tinubu, has commended the Super Falcons on their qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Mrs Tinubu congratulated the Super Falcons on their victory in a video via X.
The Super Falcons beat African champions South Africa 1-0 on aggregate Tuesday night in Pretoria to seal their ticket to the summer games after a 16-year wait to feature again at the Olympics.
The First Lady lauded the history-making Falcons, while charging them to go for Gold in France from July.
She wrote, “Congratulations our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons,” she posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Ending a 16-year Olympic jinx is no small feat, and your perseverance and commitment have truly paid off.
“Your hard work, resilience, and team spirit have brought glory to Nigeria and inspired countless young girls across the country to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
“I am so proud of all your achievements.”
Mrs Tinubu then tasked the team to aim for the gold medal at Paris 2024.
“Your journey doesn’t end here; it’s just the beginning of an even greater adventure,” she urged.
“Make Nigeria proud, Super Falcons! Bring home the gold!”
Also, the Sports Minister, John Enoh, applauded the bravery of the Falcons, noting that the country should support the team in their quest for more greatness in Paris.
“We salute the Super Falcons for their extraordinary display of tenacity and doggedness, breaking barriers and reclaiming Nigeria’s spot on the Olympic stage,” he said in a press statement.
“Their victory is not just a triumph for Nigerian football, but a testament to the power of dedication and teamwork.
“As we look forward to Paris 2024, let us rally behind our champions and support them as they strive for greatness.”
The Super Falcons will face the world champions such as Spain, Japan and Brazil in Group C of the Paris Olympics.
They open their campaign on July 25 against Brazil.
