The Imo State Police Command has said it arrested a notorious cultist on police wanted list for his criminal activities in communities across the state.
This was made known in a statement on Friday by State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye.
He noted that the suspect was arrested at his hideout at Umuguma in Owerri West Local Government Area on February 28, with one locally made pistol with three rounds of live cartridges in his possession.
The suspect, identified as Paul Munachi 26, a native of Oforola in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state was who was arrested by Anti-Narcotic Squad was said to be on top of the command’s wanted list due to his alleged criminal activities in the state.
Speaking further on the incident, the police spokesperson said, “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity and stated that he bought the gun from a dealer in Port Harcourt to avenge the death of his brother who was killed by members of the BAGA confraternity. He also confessed to some violent crimes he perpetrated alongside his cohorts in Imo.”
He said “effort is intensified to arrest other members at large and the manufacturer of the locally-made gun.”
Okoye stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
He affirmed the Command’s commitment to providing maximum safety and security for the people of the State, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma has called on the residents to assist the Police and other security agencies in the onslaught against cultism and other violent crimes in the State.
