Nine people have reportedly died, leaving seven injured, on Tuesday morning in an early morning crash that occurred on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway at the Kere bridge in the Ewekoro
Local Government Area Ogun State.
According to The PUNCH, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Florence Okpe disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
The crash involved a truck and a Mazda bus with the number plate SMK 808 YD.
The accident, blamed on excessive speed and route violation reportedly caused a head-on collision between the truck and the Mazda bus.
The statement partly reads, “The fatal crash occurred at about 0800 hrs on the Lagos-Abeokuta route. A total of 17 persons were involved which comprised 7 male adults, 9 female adults and 01 female.
“A total of 07 Persons were injured, 05 female adults, 01 male adult and 01 female children but unfortunately 09 persons were recorded dead from the crash ( 05 male adults and 04 female adults).
“2 vehicles were involved; a Truck with no registration number black colour, a white colour Mazda bus with registration number SMK808YD.
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were over-speeding and one-way (Route violation) that led to a head-on collision of the two vehicles. The injured victims were taken to General Hospital Ijaye while the dead bodies were deposited at Lantoro Hospital/ General Hospital Ijaye Abeokuta”.
