A red card in football means a player’s dismissal from the match. It is given for significant offenses, violent conduct, dangerous play, or any activity that brings the game into notoriety.
Red card is shown by a referee to signify that a player must be sent off.
A red carded player cannot be replaced, leaving their team short-handed for the remainder of the encounter.
A two-match ban will be issued if players are sent off for dissent or as decided by the official depending on circumstances surrounding the call
Unlike yellow cards, a ban from a red card will apply to all domestic competitions but it doesn’t carry over to UEFA tournaments.
Gerardo Bedoya, Sergio Ramos, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Francesco Totti all feature in the 11 of players with most red cards in football history

Jens Lehmann is the only goalkeeper to be sent off seven times in his career. Lehmann’s most famous red card happened in the 2006 Champions League final between Arsenal and Barcelona.
The German goalkeeper became the first player to be sent off in a European Cup final after he brought down Samuel Eto’o outside the Arsenal box in just the 18th minute.
