The Family of the late governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has announced that their late patriarch will be buried on Friday February 23, 2024.
According to a release by Oluwarotimi Akeredolu jnr on behalf of the family, the late governor will be buried at his country home, Owo.
The events will take place from the 15th to the 25th of February2024, honoring the life and legacy of the esteemed statesman.
The series of events will commence on Thursday, the 15th of February, with a crusade in Akure.
This will be followed by a Jumat Service on Friday, the 16th of February, also in Akure.On Monday, the 19th of February2024, a Valedictory Service and NBA Tributes will be held in Ibadan.
Additionally, a Service of Songs will take place simultaneously at All Saints Church, Jericho, and Jacob and Grace Chapel, Ologun-eru, starting at 4 pm.
Tuesday, the 20th of February, will see a Commendation Service at 10 am at All Saints Church, Jericho, along with the Lying in State at the late Governor’s residence in Jericho, Ibadan.
On Wednesday, the 21st of February, a special program will be held in Ondo State, taking place in Akure from 10 am.
A Service of Songs will be held on Thursday, the 22nd of February, from 4 pm to 7 pm at St. Andrews Church, Owo.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, the 23rd of February, at 10 am at St. Andrews Church, Owo. A reception will follow at Mydas Hotel.
The funeral proceedings will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, the 25th of February, at 10 am at St. Andrews Church, Owo.
The statement reads in part, “With hearts overflowing with gratitude, the entire Akeredolu family wishes to extend our deepest appreciation to all those who have extended their warmth and compassion to us during this trying time, following the unfortunate transition of our beloved Patriarch, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, former Governor of Ondo State (February 2017 – December 2023). The outpouring of love we have received has been nothing short of a deluge, and for that, we are profoundly grateful.
“Your unwavering display of affection has touched our souls in immeasurable ways, and mere words cannot adequately express our gratitude. Your love and kindness serve as powerful catalysts, strengthening our unshakeable faith in God Almighty and reaffirming our commitment to serving humanity.
“To those who took the time to visit us in Ibadan and Owo, we extend our heartfelt appreciation. Your presence brought solace to our hearts, and your invaluable support lifted our spirits.
“Our gratitude also extends to the esteemed political leaders, revered royal fathers, devout religious leaders, community pillars, heads of security agencies, dedicated unionists, civil servants, public officials, student leaders, and women groups, as well as politicians from across party lines, who have shown us love and sympathy during this challenging period.
“It is with deep respect and a sense of duty that we invite our dear friends, associates, and well-wishers to join us in giving our late Patriarch a befitting funeral. The obsequies are as follows:
Akeredolu died 15 days later on 27 December, at age 67 in a German hospital.
He was said to have died of prostate cancer.
