A former deputy governor of Oyo State, Chief Iyiola Oladokun is among the residents who have been displaced following an explosion that occurred in a section of Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday.
Oladokun served as the deputy to the late Governor Lam Ona-Olapo Adesina from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy Party.
According to The PUNCH, Oladokun who is known to be a close associate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a respected member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, and his family are currently being accommodated by a relative.
His multi-story building, located near Dejo Oyelese Street, was significantly affected by the explosion.
A source close to the politician stated that Oladokun has been forced to vacate his property due to uncertainty regarding the stability of the building’s foundation after the blast.
The source said, “He must vacate the building because “nobody is sure if the foundation of the building will still be okay after being jolted by the unexpected explosion.”
Another source said the residence of the late Chief Bola Ige, the former Attorney General of the Federation, was also affected, with several shattered windows observed on the property located approximately 600 meters away from Oladokun’s house.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the explosion and ongoing rescue efforts.
The State governor, Seyi Makinde has visited the scene promising succor for those affected and investigation into the cause of the explosion.
