Serie A club AS Roma have announced the departure of their manager, Jose Mourinho, and his entire coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect.
Mourinho joined the Italian club in May 2021 and led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on May 25th, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season.
The decision comes after several disappointing results and a recent 3-1 defeat to AC Milan.
“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours,” the club said.
Roma currently sits in 9th place on the league table, having managed only one victory in their last five league matches.
Speculation about Mourinho’s future at Roma had been circulating following the team’s defeat against Milan on Sunday night.
Mourinho, a highly regarded Portuguese coach, joined Roma in May 2021 with high hopes of reviving the team’s fortunes.
