Some fans of the Italian club Napoli, have stormed Côte d’Ivoire to show their support for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a 25 seconds video posted on the Super Eagles’ X, formerly Twitter handle, Osimhen was seen chatting with the three fans who were putting on Napoli jerseys.
The fans later posed with Osimhen for a group photo.
Victor Osimhen will now enjoy extra support from some Napoli fans at the AFCON which kicks off on Saturday.
The fans traced Super Eagles poacher to the Ivorian capital and were spotted at the Super Eagles’ camp site, the 5-star Pullman Hotel exchanging pleasantries with Osimhen, who is expected to lead the attack for the three-time African champions at the 34 edition of the continental football showpiece.
Osimhen is well loved by Napoli fans, who are appreciative of his contributions to their success in the 2022-2023 season, as they won the Serie A title after 33 years.
The 25-year-old scored 26 goals in 32 matches to cart home the top scorer’s award and become the highest African scorer in Serie A with 47 goals, eclipsing George Weah’s record.
Osimhen will be the focal point as he heads into the AFCON as the reigning Africa’s best player. This leaves him with a weight of expectation from the football world, but enjoying the support of the club and country’s fans will be a lubricant in the wheel of his success.
