Nigeria Premier Football League has planned to honour the former Golden Eaglets coach, late Sebastien Brodericks-Imasuen who died on Tuesday at a hospital in Benin City, Edo State.
This was made known in a statement by the NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, while reacting to the passing of Imasuen.
He directed all the coaches and players across all league venues on matchday 17 to wear black armbands in honour of the late Golden Eaglets’ coach
A minute silence will also be observed before kick-off for the foremost coach of the league in the past.
While describing Imasuen as an icon of youth and club coaching, Elegbeleye said, “Sebastien Brodericks-Imasuen was a Coach who made youth football popular in Nigeria and at some point in his career, he was one of those that heightened interest in the Professional Football League with a running rivalry with some other top club coaches like Willy Bazuaye, James Peters, Charles Bassey to mention a few.”
“By his death, our country has lost an icon in the coaching echelon,” he added.
Brodericks-Imasuen died at the age of 85 years in a private hospital in Benin, Edo State on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
He made global headlines after leading the Nigeria U-16 team to win the maiden FIFA Cadet Championship in China in 1985.
