The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has signed a bill establishing the Community Guards Corps in the state.
Aliyu, while signing the bill on Thursday described it as a landmark achievement in his administration’s efforts to guarantee the security and development of the state.
”The effort was delivered to address incidents of kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminality facing the state.
”It was part of the commitment to curtail the menace and engage collaboratively with neighboring states in the fight against insecurity,” the Governor said.
Aliyu thanked the State House of Assembly members for their unwavering support in realising the initiative.
He stated that the establishment of the Corps would help to provide a collaborative mechanism with statutory security agencies which will support in maintaining a safe and livable environment for all citizens.
He noted that the purpose of setting up the Corps was not to pose challenges to security agencies but to boost their efforts in curbing societal threats and providing crucial information.
