The National Emergency Management Agency has deployed its personnel to some communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, following the unfortunate attacks.
The Director General, NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, disclosed this in a statement via X, formerly Twitter handle on Tuesday.
The statement read in part, “the team of the agency was deployed to conduct rapid assessment of the situation and provide immediate supports to families of those that lost their lives, injured persons and people that have been displaced by the incidents.”
The statement noted that the NEMA rapid response team comprised of Directors from headquarters and staff from North Central Zone have visited some of the affected communities in the two Local Government Areas as well as Jos University Teaching Hospital where most of the injured persons are being treated.
“The NEMA team carried out the assessment along with the State Government officials led by the Deputy Governor and Executive Secretary of Plateau State Emergency Management Agency,” the statement said.
Ahmed , represented by the Deputy Director Operations, Mr Bashir Idris Garga, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident and commiserated with the Government and people of the state.
He added, “NEMA has provided food and humanitarian items that will be distributed to provide immediate succor to the affected persons and medicaments to support treatment of the injured persons.”
At least 96 persons were killed while 221 houses were set ablaze as gunmen stormed Plateau State on Christmas Eve.
The State Commissioner of Police, Okoro Alawari, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Alfred Alabo.
He explained further that the attacks which were carried out by the assailants in 15 communities of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of the state also left eight vehicles burnt in the process.
