Super Eagles star, Ahmed Musa, and Egyptian Captain, Mohammed Salah have stirred up mixed reactions from social media users for celebrating Christmas.
The two football star who were both Muslims using their respective social media platforms shared family photos celebrating Christmas.
Ahmed Musa had shared a photo of his wife sitting beside a Christmas tree, in celebration of Christmas. Musa wrote;
“Compliments of the season. This festive season, I pray that you experience true joy and peace and may things of celebration never cease from your household. Merry Christmas to you all.”
A social media user on Instagram identified as @saudah_maanu, commented,@ahmedmusa718 May Allah give you the ability to convert your wife to Islam.”
While @achraf_h96, posted,”I swear it’s not good to celebrate with a Christian like you believe that prophet Isah (A S) is for the sake of Allah, anyone that doesn’t stop repenting will burn him, may Allah make us die in good health”.
Also, @Kak_hypershop, commented, “A rasa wanda zai fadi gaskiya a page din nan with due respect sir its haram to a muslim do Charismas wishes may Allah grant us janna”.
Sharing similar sentiment, @abdul_aziz_aaj,”It’s not good for a Muslim to celebrate Christmas with the unbelievers, it’s like they don’t support them on the way they are, and at the end the religion of Islam prohibits Muslims from celebrating non-believers in any form of their celebration. Christmas to you all”.
Also Liverpool Player, Mohammed Salah was also criticised on social media by Muslim fans after he posted a Christmas message.
Salah, who is Muslim, posted a photo of a Christmas tree and included a caption in which he talks about the conflict involving Israel and Palestine, before wishing his followers a ‘Merry Christmas’.
Salah was criticised by fans on social media last year after taking a picture of him, his wife Magi and daughters Makka and Kayan – posed in matching pyjamas in front of a Christmas tree..
A tweep identified @Xavier, while reacting tweeted, “Whilst it is nice that you are speaking about Gaza
“We cannot turn a blind eye to the transgression of celebrating Christmas
“The prophet ﷺ didn’t celebrate Christmas. So you and I, as Muslims, shouldn’t either. This is even more important given the influence you have”.
One fan wrote that Salah is ’embarrassing to the Muslim world’ while another said they were ‘disappointed’ with the Liverpool star.
Another supporter wrote: ‘This is so uncouth Salah, you are Muslim not Christian. Our Christmas is on April, shame on you brother.’
Somebody claiming to be an Arsenal supporter wrote: ‘Mo Salah, I loved you as an Arsenal fan. I viewed you as an excellent player and you always inspired me.
‘However, after this tweet, I can no longer view you as my role model. You disappointed me. If you don’t delete this tweet, I will have to unfollow you.’
