In a worldwide disruption on Thursday, the prominent social media platform X, formerly recognized as Twitter, grappled with a widespread outage lasting over an hour.
Downdetector.com, a service monitoring service interruptions, recorded more than 47,000 US users encountering access difficulties, affecting both X and X Pro services.
Additionally, users in the UK and Asia reported an inability to view posts, met with a “Welcome to X!” message upon attempting access.
The platform, under the ownership of Elon Musk following a staggering $44 billion (£35 billion) acquisition last year, remains approached for comment regarding the outage.
Within minutes of the disruption, the hashtag #TwitterDown surged in popularity on the platform.
Since Musk’s acquisition, X has encountered challenges in advertising revenue decline and faced allegations of displaying antisemitic content adjacent to advertisements.
These controversies prompted the company to take legal action against Media Matters for America, a left-leaning advocacy group, for their accusations.
