A man identified as Eyinnaya Iheukwumere popularly known as Doctor Hagi has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly killing a 20-year-old woman, Rachael Samson and selling her baby.
According to The PUNCH, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this on Tuesday
Iheukwumere, who allegedly owns the ‘Hagi Medical Centre’ in Igwuruta in Ikwere Local Government Area of the state, allegedly killed Samson during a surgery in his facility.
The sister of the deceased in an Instagram post alleged that Doctor Hagi asked a nurse in his facility to inform the family that she died in a car accident.
Inringe-Koko said the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal and Intelligence Department for investigations.
She stated, “Yes I can confirm that Doctor Hagi has been arrested in a case of murder and the matter has been transferred to the State CID for discreet investigation. The details of the investigation will be made known to the public soonest.”
Reports revealed that the suspect was paraded in October by the police command for alleged child trafficking.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Rivers State chapter, Dr Robinson Ebi, however,said Dr Hagi is neither a medical doctor nor a member of the association.
Ebi, in a statement, made it clear that there is a difference between alternative medicine practice and medical practice.
The state NMA Chairman called on the Nigerian police to add impersonation to the charges brought against the said Dr Hagi.
He urged the state Ministry of Health to collaborate with the NMA and the police to arrest quacks putting the lives of Rivers people in danger.
