Suspected pirates have killed four Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps operatives in Bakana, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to The PUNCH, the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear, but it appears the gunmen ambushed the operatives on the waterway.
A viral video shows the remains of the deceased NSCDC officers on a boat near the riverbank.
In the video, some corps officials and sympathizers identified two of the victims as Chibuzo and Chief Priest.
Two of the victims have been buried according to Islamic rites, while the bodies of the others are in an undisclosed hospital mortuary.
The State Command of the NSCDC has not yet provided official statements or comments on the incident, and efforts to reach the state NSCDC spokesman, Olufemi Ayodele, have been unsuccessful.
