The Taraba State police, on Sunday retrieved the bodies of three children after a boating incident that occurred on Saturday within the Ardo Kola Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer,Usman Abdullahi, shared that “The incident took place as the victims were returning from the Mayo-Renowo fish market to Karim Lamido Local Government on Saturday, with the boat capsizing in River Benue.”
“No one in the boat survived the accident according to a preliminary report. So far, three bodies have been recovered from the incident.”
The acting Chairman of the Inland Water Transporters in Taraba State, Mr. Jidda Mayoreneyo, revealed that the boat, which capsized, was carrying more than 50 passengers.
The Caretaker Chairman of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, Alhaji Dalhatu Kawu, explained that the boat, which departed from Mayoreneyo local jetty on Saturday, was en route to Binnari town in the Karim Lamido Local Government Area but met with an accident in the middle of River Benue.
Reports indicate that neither the passengers nor the boat operator were wearing life jackets.
