Kenyan marathon runner Titus Ekiru has been handed a 10-year ban, as announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit on Monday.
This ban was imposed due to his involvement in both doping and tampering, a case that revealed collaboration with a high-ranking doctor in a Kenyan hospital.
One of Ekiru’s positive tests was for the substance triamcinolone acetonide, which occurred during the Milan Marathon in May 2021.
Notably, he won that marathon with a remarkable time of two hours, two minutes, and 57 seconds, ranking him as the seventh-fastest marathon athlete in the world currently.
The ban’s effective period spans from the date of his provisional suspension, which commenced on June 28, 2022, and extends until June 27, 2032.
As a consequence, all results achieved since May 16, 2021, have been nullified, and Ekiru is required to forfeit any race prizes and associated earnings.
