In recent months, the frequency of attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State has intensified, resulting in numerous casualties, according to a report by an Abuja-based security organization, Beacon Intel, led by Dr. Kabiru Adamu.
According to Daily Trust, the report reveals that in August alone, over 252 individuals lost their lives due to these attacks in the state.
This surge in terrorist activities has raised concerns among residents and community leaders.
Sources have alleged that some Boko Haram fighters who had previously surrendered to the military have since rejoined terrorist groups in various areas, including Gwoza, Damboa, Guzamala, Kukawa, Abadam, Baga, and other regions around Lake Chad.
One of the repentant Boko Haram fighters, known as Yaga Balu, who had surrendered to the military in Gwoza and reintegrated into society, reportedly returned to the Sambisa forest.
It is alleged that he escaped with a rifle and a motorcycle provided to him by the government during an operation in the Gwoza area.
Sources claim that Balu has been involved in orchestrating several attacks, resulting in the deaths of more than 30 people, including a police officer and a soldier, as well as injuring several others.
Prior to the recent ambush, between September 9 and 16, the insurgents were responsible for the deaths of 10 farmers in just 10 days.
These attacks took place in various locations, including Jige, Nyamtake, and on farms, further underscoring the persistent security challenges in the region.
