Gunmen believed to be armed herdsmen have reportedly killed three individuals in Imatom village, located in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
A community leader, Anawa Joseph, revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday, raising concerns over the recurring violence targeting residents in the local government area, allegedly perpetrated by suspected herders.
The victims of this latest attack were identified as Tertsea Terkimbi Adagundu, Tertsea Mkposu, and Mimidoo Umburga.
According to Joseph, these three young men fell victim to the violence, as he stated, “These three young men were killed by Fulani militia herdsmen at Imatom village Square near Chembe, Ukemberagya, Logo Local Government, Benue State yesterday, Saturday, October 14 at about 9 pm.”
He further mentioned that their bodies have been taken to the NKST hospital morgue, emphasizing the recurring attacks and killings that seemingly have no provocation, possibly driven by a motive to displace the local farmers to allow for cattle grazing on their crops.
Joseph expressed concern that this incident marked the fourth attack in the region since September.
He recounted previous instances of violence, including the killing of a farmer on his cassava farm, the attack on two women fetching firewood, and another incident where two men were waylaid and injured by suspected Fulani militia.
The community leader issued an urgent plea to both state and federal authorities, requesting the deployment of security forces to secure the area.
Upon contacting the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Catherine Anene, her response was that she lacked the specific information regarding the incident.
