The Ogun State Police Command has taken into custody an individual suspected of stealing 47 bags of rice from his employer in the Ijebu region of the state.
The arrest of the suspect, Damilola Bada, was confirmed in a statement released to the press by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Saturday.
The bags of rice, valued at N2.5 million, reportedly belonged to the company Chicken & Co.
The theft was brought to light when the company’s owner, Oluremi Olabode, lodged a complaint with the Igbeba division of the Ogun State police force.
According to the statement, “On the 13th of October 2023, Oluremi Olabode, the owner of Chicken & Co Company, reported a case of stealing, involving one of her storekeepers named Damilola Bada, 25 years old.”
She alleged that Damilola conspired with other employees to pilfer forty-seven bags of rice, resulting in a financial loss of two million, five hundred thousand Naira.
Following an audit of the company’s store, the theft was uncovered, and the complainant, Oluremi Olabode, promptly reported the incident to the Igbeba Divisional Police Officer. Subsequently, 25-year-old Damilola Bada was taken into custody and subjected to interrogation.
During the questioning, Damilola was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation concerning the missing bags of rice that were under his custody.
The statement concluded by urging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities within their communities to the nearest Police Station.
