No fewer than two people lost their lives when a multi-story building under construction collapsed in the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Osun State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening while the deceased, along with two others, were engaged in construction work within the building when it crumbled.
A resident, identified as Lateef, while recounting the incident said the owner of the building was allegedly among the victims.
Lateef said the owner succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
“Some minutes to 7 pm on Wednesday, we heard a loud noise from a construction site in our area, and immediately, people rushed to the scene,” Channels quoted Lateef to have said.
According to Lateef, the victims were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, corroborated the incident.
She disclosed that the building, though still under construction, was being utilized as a place of worship.
According to him, the building served as a church in the Eweta community of Ikirun.
“Our officers that visited the scene said the affected building was still under construction, and some workers were inside it when it collapsed,” Adeleke said.
