The National Emergency Management Agency, Ekiti State chapter, and various stakeholders converged to address flood preparedness in the state.
This was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday after the Ekiti Operations Office held an emergency meeting which was chaired by the Head of HRM, Aladetimehin Foluso, on behalf of NEMA’s Head of Operations at their conference hall.
“To prevent loss of lives and property in Ekiti State, stakeholders discussed actions already taken,” NEMA posted on X (formerly Twitter).
It further said that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp represented by DCC Olumese Alice, initiated sensitization in all the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti, mandating CDAs to do the same in flood-prone communities.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, represented by CRC Thomas, conducted sensitization and advocacy through station officers and places of worship, with standby rescue teams ready for emergencies.
Also, the State Emergency Management Agency represented by Mr. Ayodeji Oguntuyi, engaged in dredging major rivers, running sensitization campaigns.
DSF Ayodeji Ajayi from the Federal Fire Service reported that personnel had been trained on water rescue, with additional training planned.
Meanwhile, NEMA said during the meeting, areas prone to flooding were identified, including Oke-Osun Area, Elimi Area, Ureje Area, Ogbese, and Ilawe.
NEMA is an agency in Nigeria that mainly focuses on disaster management in all parts of the country.
