In a significant announcement, the Governors of Anambra and Kogi states, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and Yahaya Bello, respectively, have unveiled plans for the implementation of free and compulsory education in public schools within their respective states.
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo disclosed this important initiative during a declaration made at the Premier Primary School in Obosi, near Onitsha. He emphasized that this move is aligned with his vision of providing comprehensive education to all schoolchildren in Anambra State.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Information Officer in the Anambra State Ministry of Education, Obiageli Nwankwo, Governor Soludo asserted that education, spanning from Early Childhood Care and Development Education to Junior Secondary Schools, will now be offered free of charge and mandated for all eligible students in the state.
“Henceforth, no child within that education range would be charged school fees or any other fees to acquire education in Anambra State.
“Children of school age will no longer be deprived of access to quality education.
“Machinery will be put in place to ensure that this is effectively implemented. This administration will not look kindly on anyone who fails to comply with this pronouncement,” Soludo said
In Kogi, Yahaya declared education free from primary up to secondary school, saying “The New Direction administration under my leadership hereby declares free education from primary to secondary school in the state and will cover examination fees for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB for all indigenes of Kogi State.”
The governor made the remark on Thursday while kicking off the distribution of federal palliatives in the state.
