The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Yush’au Ahmed, has announced that the NYSC management is actively working towards the early release of the remaining five prospective corps members who were abducted in a recent incident in Zamfara State.
The DG made this revelation during his appearance, alongside his management team, before the House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development.
He emphasized that concerted efforts are underway to secure the safe release of these abducted corps members, with various security agencies collaborating closely with traditional and religious authorities to achieve this goal.
Notably, in August 2023, eight prospective corps members were kidnapped while en route to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State. Encouragingly, three of these individuals have already been liberated and subsequently relocated to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following necessary medical attention.
Ahmed said, “We are making efforts to see that we get the children out of captivity. We are getting in touch with the bandits. From all the signs we are receiving, we are hopeful we will get them as soon as possible.”
The DG advised against nighttime travel, emphasising that it went against the safety advice that the administration of the programme had given to all current and prospective NYSC members.
