The Ekiti State Government has initiated a school mass transit programme, enabling students attending public schools to avail themselves of complimentary transportation services for their daily commute to and from school.
According to Daily Trust, this was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, the General Administration Department, Mr James Owolabi, on Sunday.
In light of the high cost of living brought on by the elimination of subsidies, he said that the free bus ride was intended to lessen the impact on parents and civil servants of the high cost of transportation.
According to Owolabi, the free school bus service would begin in the Ado Ekiti city today (Monday) from 6.30 am to 8 am and 2 pm to 4 pm daily.
He advised public secondary school pupils to constantly wear their school uniforms in order to benefit from the scheme.
