The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, to ensure that a motorcycle rider, Orji Felix, who was injured by a government van, receives the best medical attention at no cost to him or his family.
The governor also ordered the immediate suspension of the driver, Onyebuchi Steven, attached to his convoy who was involved in an accident with the motorcyclist in Ohafia Local Government, on Sunday, pending investigation.
In addition, the governor imposed a temporary suspension on the convoy’s driver, Onyebuchi Steven, who was engaged in a collision with a motorcycle rider on Sunday in Ohafia Local Government.
According to a statement released on Monday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Mr. Kazie Uko, the goal of the investigation is to determine the driver’s guilt in the accident.
According to the statement, Felix, who was going to leave after picking up a passenger by the side of the road, was struck by Steven, who was operating a Toyota Hilux pickup van.
According to Uko, the motorcyclist and his passenger were both swiftly saved and transferred to a hospital close to the scene of the collision.
Felix, according to the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, suffered several fractures on his left leg and right arm, the statement stated, while the passenger was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital in Ohafia and released.
“The 18-year-old Okada rider was treated by Dr. Okoronkwo, who also bandaged his damaged arm and leg, before being taken in an ambulance from Ohafia to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia.
“Felix is a patient at the Crowther ward, FMC, and is currently recovering there. On Sunday night, the on-call nurses assessed his health as “extremely stable.”
The patient, who is currently getting complete medical care, was observed engaging and responding to queries. When questioned about the pain in his left leg, he responded, “The pain is not much again.”
The hospital’s on-duty nurses were commended by the commissioner, who visited again Sunday night to check on the patient’s development. The Governor’s order to appropriately care for the patient was reinforced by Dr. Okoronkwo.
