The former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on Wednesday, met with the leader of the military junta in the neighbouring Niger Republic.
This was revealed in a picture of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, posing with the military leader, Abdouramane Tchiani, in Niger, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
It would be recalled that the head of the military group in the country, had earlier rejected the delegation sent to them for negotiation.
The Economic of the West African Countries, had earlier sent a delegation to the military leaders in the country, to have a soft landing, in reinsuring the deposed elected President of the country, Muhammed Bazoum, who was given a house arrest, alongside the members of his family, at the Presidential palace in the country.
Meanwhile, after the announcement of the power shift by the military group led by General Tchiani, the ECOWAS appealed to the military leaders to return power to the deposed president.
However, following the resolution of the military group to hold on to power, after a negotiation has been turned down, the ECOWAS issued a 7-day ultimatum, which was also disrespected by the military, while all the diplomatic ties were also cut by them.
Reported however had it that the 14th Emir of Kano, has met with the coup leaders.
The former CBN governor met the military leadership after the junta aborted a meeting with representatives of the African Union, the ECOWAS and the US.
It was however learnt that Sanusi, who is the Khalifa of the Tijjaniya sect in West Africa, has a wide followership across Niger and West African countries in general.
His viral photo with the junta leader was not however clear on what his mission was all about, in the country.
