The peaceful nationwide protest embarked on by the organized Labour Congress has paralyzed commercial activities in Kano State.
PUNCH METRO reported that the Kano Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress joined the peaceful protest alongside their counterparts in the federation.
This complies with the nationwide demonstration that the NLC called for in response to the FG’s elimination of fuel subsidies.
The Kano NLC protest march started at the Ahmadu Bello Way location of the Murtala Mohammed Library and ended at the State Government House, where Dr. Baffa Bichi, the secretary to the state government, welcomed the protesters.
The protesters displayed placards, some of which read: “Government should not listen to IMF and World Bank demands”, “No to increment in University fees”, Minimum wage should be N200,000″, Government must restore fuel subsidy, among others.
Tinubu had removed subsidy on petrol during his epic inauguration speech on May 29, 2023, with a litre of the petrol jumping from N184 to over N620 and food prices and general inflation galloping at an unprecedented rate.
Last week, the NLC issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government and demanded “the immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies of the federal government including the recent hike in PMS price, increase in public school fees, the release of the eight months withheld salary of university lecturers and workers”.
