The Rotary Club, Ibadan City Central has adopted a baby girl named Amara, whose mother died 40 days after her birth and was born with some peculiar health challenges
The club offered to take over her welfare; pay her medical bills and all other expenses as well as take her outside the country.
While vowing to take over her medical treatment for a year, hoping that in that year, she would have overcome all health challenges and be able to live a normal life.
Reports revealed that Rotary Club came across Amara while donating mother and child items to patients at Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Ibadan Oyo State.
The club, led by its president, the Aare of Ofiki land, Oba Gbenga Adeoye, stressed that the gesture is one of the mandates of Rotary as the core of the club activities borders on caring for others.
Oba Adeoye said, “we have to care for the health of the mother and child, and we have a dedicated month for that, which is July. It is the month of Maternal and Child Health in Rotary. That is why we are here today to assist mothers and their children through the provision of basic items like toiletries, diapers and cash donations. The hospital is not also left out as bed sheets and other essentials were also donated to them.
“We are to fill perceived vacuums and assist government in ensuring people have basic amenities and live qualitative life. And it is this life of service that brought us here today. It is during our visit here that we met Amara and as it is in line with our vision, we have adopted her and will help her to overcome her health challenges.
“The essence of our gesture is just to support the development of humanity through various interventions which the Rotary Club is noted for.
“When you give of your time in service, you touch lives; when you give of your resource, you uplift lives, however, when you give of both your time and your resources with love and compassion, you yourself become a gift to humanity and to the world.”
Also at the intervention was the Project Chair of the club, Ogunranti Adeshina, who thanked the members for their sense of giving and sacrifice as well as constant support which, according to him, has led to helping mothers and their children and the success of the programme.
