Some students unions have reporyedly gathered at the frontage of the Osun State Polytechnic entrancethe to stage a protest against the suspension of the school rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo.
The protesters were said to have arrived at the scene as early as 7:30 on Tuesday morning carrying different placards with different inscriptions to register their displeasure against the removal of the embattled rector.
According to reports, the protest have stalled academic activities at the tertiary institution which is located in Ire town of the state.
The state government had in a letter dated July 11, 2023, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, M. K. Jimoh, suspended the Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo appointed 14 March, 2023 over alleged issues of corruption, pending the determination of allegations against him and replaced him with one Mr Kehinde Alabi.
The letter read, “You are hereby suspended as the Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, sequel to the strong allegations of financial recklessness, corruption, misappropriation of fund, abuse of office among others.
“You are to proceed on suspension immediately, while investigation into the allegations leveled against you commences soon”.
It was learnt, however that following the protest, the school gate has been put under lock and key, by the students and the school chapter of the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic, preventing academic activities and other activities on the campus.
