Six people are said to have passed away after consuming alcohol that was allegedly provided to them by a friend in Ogbogbo, an area of Ogun State in the Ijebu-North East region.
According to The PUNCH, the event happened on Tuesday in a pub where seven friends had allegedly gathered to drink.
A source stated that all six people who consumed the alcohol passed away, with the exception of the seventh individual who, according to reports, carried the booze from home but refrained from consuming.
According to reports, a heated confrontation between the deceased people, but was resolved later.
According to an anonymous source, the suspect proposed donating a bottle of alcohol as a gesture of reconciliation following the argument.
The suspect allegedly returned home and brought a beverage that was consumed by all six friends, with the exception of himself.
Shortly after their departure, news reached the town that two of the friends had died and four others had been hospitalised.
According to the source, the other four victims died the next day, and the culprit is now on the run.
The source said “It was later at that night that the news started breaking that those who drank from the alcohol have started dying while some of them were rushed to the hospital.
“Six people have been announced dead as of the time of speaking to you. The whereabouts of the man who brought the alcohol is yet to be known.”
The state’s police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, verified the occurrence when approached for comment.
However, Odutola remained silent when asked about the number of casualties.
She said, “I just confirmed something like that occurred but the families said they are not pressing charges and prefer to bury their dead.”
