Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic defeated Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the Wimbledon final on Saturday, becoming the first unseeded woman to win the tournament since the Open era.
Vondrousova faced sixth-ranked Jabeur as the first unseeded female in the Wimbledon final in 60 years, and she was a huge underdog.
But after losing to Ash Barty in the 2019 French Open final, the 24-year-old shocked the odds on Centre Court to capture her first Grand Slam championship at the second attempt.
She is the only Czech woman to have won a Wimbledon title, joining Jana Novotna and Petra Kvitova.
Also she is only the ninth unseeded winner of a Grand Slam tournament.
