An abducted businesswoman, Mrs Onyi Ugba, in Rivers State has regained her freedom after spending one week in captivity.
According to The PUNCH, Mrs Ugba was abducted at her supermarket at Umuoji junction, Okija Street in the Mile 1 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt on July 7, 2023.
About five armed men invaded her store and demanded that she give them all of the money she had generated from sales that day.
The clearly terrified woman quickly cooperated, according to a source, but the shooters, apparently unsatisfied, seized her and put her into their waiting vehicle after shooting intermittently to frighten onlookers.
Mrs. Ugba’s whereabouts have been unknown since then, until on Friday night, her captors freed her.
A source who pleaded anonymity for fear of being identified said, “She was released last night blindfolded. And some policemen on patrol rescued her.”
When asked if a ransom was paid to have her released, he said “yes,” but did not specify how much was given.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.
She said, “Our men on stop and search in Abaili Pack Division in the Mile 1 axis of Diobu (Port Harcourt) intercepted the vehicle where she was blindfolded and rescued her.
“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the hoodlums and make them face the law.”
