A man identified as Danladi Mohammed, has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment for fraud by the Borno state high court.
In a statement released on Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said that Mohammed was sent to jail after being found guilty of stealing N7.6m.
He used the money from selling 8,000 camping lanterns, which he said were going to be sent to a UN organisation.
When he was tried on April 25, 2023, the defendant pleaded not guilty, so the case went to trial.
During the trial, the prosecutor, S.O. Saka, brought in three witnesses and a number of papers, which were allowed to be shown as evidence.
In his ruling, Justice Umaru Fadawu found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him to a year in jail or a N200,000 fine.
The judge also told the person who was found guilty to pay the nominal accuser a total of N7.6m.
The judge ordered that he comply or face a five-year prison sentence.
