Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a couple, Abdullahi Ibrahim and Khadija Ali who disguised as new converts to allegedly steal from a Muslim cleric in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe.
The couple allegedly stole a motorcycle belonging to the cleric.
This was made known by the command Spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, in Damaturu.
The force spokesman explained that Ibrahim, 21 and Ali, 20, on June 4, approached the cleric stating that they wanted to convert to Islam.
“The suspects presented themselves as Jude Emmanuel, a Birom man from Farar-Kasa in Barkin Ladi, Plateau and his wife, posed as Peace Sunday.
“They were subsequently accepted and converted to Islam and, as such, placed in the custody of the Chief Imam in Fika local government area for teaching and proper guidance.
“A day later, Abdullahi informed the Imam that he needed ashes from a thunderstrike spot to prepare a concoction for his ailments,” he explained.
The cleric obliged to let one of his sons ride him to where he got the dust.
According to PMNews, after a few days, he made the same request so he could get the dust for the wife and the cleric obliged where the suspect allegedly robbed the son of the motorcycle and fled.
“The Imam assigned one of his sons to take him to a nearby bush. Having gotten there, the suspect collected some dust.
“On the third day, he requested to be taken to the spot to collect some dust for his wife. The Imam obliged and asked his son to help them get there with his motorcycle.
“On the spot, the culprits robbed the Imam’s son of his motorcycle and fled,” Abdulkarim stated.
The couple who are from Yobe State was arrested in Biu LGA of Borno, about to perpetrate a similar act on July 1.
