Taraba state governor Agbu Kefas has directed the immediate reduction of student fees of the state varsity by 50%.
He issued the directive during an unscheduled visit to the state university to assess the institution’s condition.
According to the governor, the goal is to mitigate the devastating effects of the federal government’s elimination of subsidies, which has left some students unable to pay their tuition.
During his visit, the governor discovered that 53 of the institution’s courses lacked accreditation, that tuition had increased, and that the student dormitory was in poor condition.
When he convened with the institution’s management, he also requested a report on the reasons why some graduates do not enrol in NYSC or law school.
