The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has ordered the closure of all women’s beauty salons throughout the country.
“No justification was provided for the decision. The licences the salons require to operate will expire next month,’’ according to the decree published by Afghan media.
Some Afghan women are the primary breadwinners for their families, and beauty shops have been one of their few sources of revenue.
The Taliban, upon seizing power in August 2021, vowed to protect the rights of women.
Both high schools and colleges now actively discourage female students.
Despite the Taliban’s edicts, many Kabul women continue to go out in public without covering their faces.
In addition, several independent institutions still provide secondary education for young ladies.
