A Nigerian afrobeat legend, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has shared his experience performing for the first time at BET Awards.
The event which took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California on Sunday night had the music maestro as the second Nigerian to perform after Fireboy DML who performed last year, riding on the wave of ‘Peru’.
The music star, after his stunning performance, said he felt good about the “Culture’s Biggest Night.”
In a chat with Billboard’s Neena Rouhani, Davido said, “I feel good performing tonight. It should be big. It should be amazing; it’s the first time I’m performing at the [BET] Awards, and I’m excited.”
Recounting how he used to play afrobeat to his American friends, the music star noted that he was certain of afrobeat explosion in the Western world.
“I remember when I used to live in America as an African, in Atlanta and in Alabama for a while. I used to share [African] music, play music for my American friends and they love it. So, I always knew if we had the opportunity to be heard, eventually it [afrobeats explosion] would happen.
“Shoutout to all the afrobeats artists killing it as well. Everybody putting in works, coming out here doing tours, spreading the gospel [of afrobeats].”
Out of his numerous tracks, he chose to thrill the audience with his hit songs ‘Feel’ and ‘Unavailable’ from his latest album, ‘Timeless’.
