A 400-level Science Laboratory Technology student at Bauchi State University, Gadau has been kidnapped over the sharing of $3,800 obtained from a yahoo transaction.
The Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement made available to newsmen, “The suspects kidnapped Ojo Tobi David, 23, a 400-level student of SLT Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG), from Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate of Azare Town, Bauchi State.
“After kidnapping the victim, the suspects snatched a Toyota Camry 2010 with Reg No. KYW-925-SB, took their victim inside and swiftly headed to the Misau Road Azare.
“On receipt of the distress call, the soldiers stationed at the Azare/Misau military checkpoint responded immediately and intercepted the stolen vehicle alongside the suspects. Meanwhile, the victim was rescued unhurt.”
The PPRO stated further that eight different phones, a knife, and assorted charms were found in the suspects’ possession.
According to him, “However, one of the suspects, Damilola James, of Turum area, Bauchi, fell while trying to escape. He was taken to Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare for immediate medical attention but was certified dead by a medical doctor.
“A preliminary investigation at Divisional Police Headquarters Azare indicates that the crux of the matter was a result of a misunderstanding over the sharing of 3800 US dollars obtained in a Yahoo transaction.
“The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bauchi for further investigation.”
