Five persons have been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State for rape and conspiracy.
According to The PUNCH, two of the victim’s cousins, ages 11 and 13, as well as her 44-year-old teacher are accused of defiling her on various occasions.
Additionally charged with conspiracy were the victim’s mother and the mothers of her two cousins.
The defendants were charged with three counts of conspiracy and rape in front of Magistrate Patrick Nwaka.
The victim and her mother were claimed to be living in the same flat as the guys, and they allegedly took turns defiling her.
According to reports, the event took place at 46, Ayanwale Street, off Toluwall, in the state’s Ikotun neighbourhood in 2021.
Taofeek Davies, the teacher, was also accused of defiling the victim in his home.
Due to the age of the two boys involved, the case was heard within the chamber.
The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the two moms covered up the crime, which is why they were charged with conspiracy.
Nurudeen claims that the offences violated and were punished in accordance with Sections 137 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of Nigeria, 2015.
The magistrate granted the two women bail in the amount of N200,000 apiece with two trustworthy sureties in his decision.
While releasing the two boys to their father with a warning that he must deliver them whenever they are required to appear in court, he remanded the teacher for 30 days.
He also adjourned the case till July 7, 2023.
