The Borno State government has mandated female Muslim student in government secondary schools throughout the state wear trousers beginning with the first term of the 2023/2024 academic year.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, this was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Maiduguri, the state capital, by the director of the ministry of education and school management, Bukar Mustapha-Umara.
Under the dress code, Mustapha-Umara stated that every female pupil must always wear trousers, a quarter blouse, a head tie, and a himar, and he urged school principals to ensure compliance.
He said, “This dress code is compulsory for all Muslim female students all over our secondary schools in the state.
”But for the Christian female students, it is optional. They can remain with their present dress code or change to the trouser.”
