Officials of the Guinness World Record has revealed that they will reviewing the evidence from the cooking marathon of popular Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.
PUNCH METRO reported that Hilda broke the longest cooking marathon record by an individual after over 87 hours and 50 minutes of cooking.
The restaurateur began the competition on Thursday after she turned on her cooker at 4pm and surpassed the current world record holder on Monday morning.
Hilda was initially scheduled to stop at 4 pm Nigerian Time culminating into her former 96-hour target, however she opted to extend her quest to 100 hours.
If certified after the 100th hour, she will be displacing the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours 45 minutes record uninterrupted cooking.
While Nigerians await the official confirmation of the record from the Guinness World Record, the body in a publication on Tuesday acknowledged Hilda’s attempt.
It’s been gathered that Bassey won’t hold the record until the Guinness World Records Committee certifies that all of their requirements have been satisfied.
A spokesperson of the international body said: “We are aware of the record attempt and are looking forward to receiving the evidence for our Records Management Team to review, before we can confirm the record is official.”
Also in an interview with CNN, Bassey said that she was motivated to attempt the record because she wants to put Nigerian food on the map.
“Nigerian cuisine is the best out there,” she said. “The more recipes are propagated, the more people will be willing to try it. Nigerian food is such comfort food,” she added.
Hilda has continued to receive support from social media users as well as dignitaries including President Muhammadu Buhari, President-elect, Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, and Senate President hopeful, Godswill Akpabio among others.
